Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a uninhabited area of Montreal Island called West Island. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing to people unfamiliar of its purpose. They often believe it's an island located to the west of Montreal However, it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the cities of Lachine and West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often called her birthplace. It is true that she resided there for a very short period of time. Brugel grew up in Courtice close to Oshawa Ontario. Her early ambition was to become a dancer, but an increase in her height led to her growing beyond her dance partner. In an article from the Toronto Star she admitted In heels I'm 6 feet 1 inch. As soon as I outgrew my male counterparts, I stopped. A lot of former dancers go on to act. In Brugel's case it was the guidance by her drama instructor in high school who pushed her to take the step she needed. Her teacher suggested she audition as Anne for their school's annual production. She was the teacher who suggested that she pursue a part the school's annual show. This led to her being awarded an Fine Arts Talent Scholarship from York University. In 2000 she graduated with a BA in Fine Arts at York University. For the past twenty years, her roles on TV and the big screen have varied. The character of Rita from the award-winning show The Handmaid's Tale was her most memorable. Brugel is the sole Canadian on the Season 1 cast of the show and seen only occasionally, was the sole Canadian.
